2018 Art Center Resolutions

originally published December 27, 2018

It's that time of year, RESOLUTIONS. Popular goals include resolutions to: Improve physical well-being: eat healthy food, lose weight, exercise more, drink less alcohol, quit smoking, stop biting nails, get rid of old bad habits. Improve mental well-being: think positive, laugh more often, enjoy life.

But let's take a moment and think about resolutions being made by the Art Center. 2018 is what you might call a cornerstone year for the Art Center. The organization is celebrating it's 40th year of being a pillar for cultural identity in our community. Board of Trustees and Executive Director Bill North have made some big moves to strengthen the core of the organization creating a strong foundation that can support innovation and ingenuity. All the restructuring and investments have happened behind the scenes, but have set us up for one of the most exciting years the Art Center has had in a decade.

Experts say you are more likely to maintain progress toward resolutions if you write them down and share them with others. So here are Art Center resolutions to hold us accountable for throughout 2018.

  1. 2018 will be ENGAGING! We want our members, supporters, and future friends to recognize the Art Center as the place to be. Inspiring conversations, stimulating opportunities to learn something new and discuss ideas, challenging complex exchanges that stimulate the mind and soul. We want to be fun, but not disposable. We will create one of a kind experiences for social engagement, inspiration and mental stimulation; and we will do it all through art.
  2. 2018 will not be for the TIMID. We will not fear the challenging, nor will be conform to popular appeal. We will be bold. No one "gets" everything that falls under the umbrella of contemporary art. No one "likes" everything under that same umbrella. However, we want everyone to part of the conversations that reveal life. Blockbuster exhibitions, larger than life art experiences, excellence in educational programming, and the best films on screen will ensure there is something for everyone in 2018.
  3. 2018 is just the BEGINNING. This evolution is bigger than our 40th birthday. We are dedicated to embracing what a community art center should be in 2020 and beyond. The energy you see in 2018, isn't a fluke. It is our new normal. Energy is cyclical. We know as our membership feels the energy and enthusiasm we have, they will respond with greater enthusiasm and energy. The Art Center community will be lifted by the energy from everyone who chooses to be involved. We are a community art center. We don't exist without our members and supporters.

How will you become part of our 2018 resolutions? Join the discussion right now by commenting what you want to see at the Art Center in 2018. How will you participate? What would you participate in? What are the exchanges we need to have in 2018 and beyond?
