My Bedroom is Not Your Bedroom

Omaha-based artist Jared Packard's My Bedroom Is Not Your Bedroom draws from his experience as queer and HIV-positive. The painting motifs interrogate themes of identity construction; reflect on the body's fragility; and embrace brokenness, impermanence, and imperfection. As visitors walk through meandering spiral walls, there is a sense of wonder and disorientation. The intimate space in the center of his spiral can be both isolating and/or a space to be in uncomfortable intimacy with someone else. Packard believes these kinds of experiences speak to the experience of being a queer hiv+ person.
