Call for Teaching Artists


The Salina Art Center is looking for teaching artists for our fall and winter programming. With support from Art Center staff, teaching artists will be responsible for designing and executing age-appropriate, project-based curriculum for the Art Center’s ongoing children’s programming. Teaching artists are an integral part of achieving the Art Center’s mission through high-quality educational opportunities.

This is a contracted position paid on an hourly basis: $25/hour per in-class teaching hour. Experience working with youth preferred for our kids programming.


Classes include:

Afterschool Studio
Three age groups: grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8

Monthly sessions consisting of three 1.5 hour workshops. Each month focuses on one medium:
October Drawing
November Painting
February Sculpture
March Printmaking
April Papermaking

Curriculum/projects should be age appropriate and focus on building basic artistic skills and vocabulary.

Discoverers meet on Wednesdays, 3:30-5 p.m., starting late October and going through April. Teaching artists are asked to commit to at least two consecutive classes. Curriculum/projects should focus on expanding artistic skills and vocabulary, and developing writing skills. Projects that explore social issues or social practice are encouraged.

Second Sundays
All ages, free family event

Two-hour monthly workshops, September through April, are project-based with more informal learning objectives. Projects that are connected to current Art Center exhibitions are encouraged.


ages 1-5 with an accompanying parent/adult

A one-hour, monthly workshop on the second Wednesday of the month, September through April. Projects should be flexible for different ages and focus on tactile learning, developing fine motor skills, and an early introduction to artistic mediums.
