Call for Teaching Artists

Summer Art 2019: Past, Present, Future

Deadline for proposals is February 1.

The Salina Art Center is now accepting proposals for Summer Art 2019, our annual summer program of classes for art learners of all ages.

This year’s theme, Past, Present, Future, is inspired by Julia Goodman’s installation “200 Year Present” which will be exhibited at the Art Center May 1 – July 28, 2019.

The title is borrowed from activist Elise Boulding, who advocated for considering one hundred years into the past and one hundred years into the future when making current political, environmental and economic decisions. Goodman’s interpretation is meant to inspire leaders who will consider the long term perspective and impact of their decisions.

As always, the theme is suggested and meant to be interpreted broadly enough to encompass a wide variety of techniques, processes, and materials; and if you have an idea that is not related to Past, Present, Future please let us hear about it.

**Note to Artists: We often have requests more drawing, painting, and technique based classes, particularly for older kids in middle and high school. Please keep this in mind!**

Each class runs for one week, Tuesday through Friday, between June 11 and July 26 (no classes the week of July 4). Maximum enrollment of 10 students per session for preschool and elementary, 12 for middle school and up. Minimum enrollment of 5 students must be reached for classes to run.

Preschool classes are one hour long and are offered in the morning (9-10 a.m. & 10:30-11:30 a.m.) and afternoon (1-2 p.m.). Ages 4-6.

Elementary classes are two hours long and are offered in the morning (9-11am) and afternoon (1-3 pm). Classes will be split into two groups, 1st - 2nd grade and 3rd - 5th grade.

Middle school classes are two hours long and are offered in the morning (9-11) or afternoon (1-3 p.m.). Please specify a time in your proposal. Grades 6-8.
