The 16th Annual Gerry Neustrom Young Artist Challenge
at Salina’s Central Mall
April 5 – 26, 2009

Salina, Kansas – The Salina Art Center announces the opening of the 16th Annual Gerry Neustrom Young Artist Challenge at Salina’s Central Mall on Sunday, April 5, at 1:00 pm, with artwork on display through April 26, 2009.  This memorial exhibition, organized by the Salina Art Center and supported by the family of Gerry Neustrom, was established to encourage and recognize young artists in central and northwest Kansas.

In February, high school students from Salina and the surrounding 44 counties were invited to submit up to three works of art for a jurying process that took place in March.  Kansas City artist, Daniel Reneau, served as the juror for this year’s exhibition.  From the artwork that was submitted, seventy four works were selected that are now included in this year’s Gerry Neustrom Young Artist Challenge exhibit.

The 16th Annual Gerry Neustrom Young Artist Challenge exhibition hours are1:00 –6:00 pm, Wednesday through Saturday and 1:00 – 5:00 pm on Sunday.  This exhibition will culminate on Sunday, April 26 with an awards ceremony at 4:00 pm.  The awards ceremony will be held in the exhibition space and is open to the public.
