Each summer, hundreds of local students participate in these art production classes, offered in collaboration with the Salina Parks & Recreation Department. Professional artists and arts educators design learning opportunities that allow deeper exploration of media, techniques, processes, and subject matter than is generally not possible in school settings.

Summer Art classes offer a range of choices for students:
- focused, in-depth investigation of a single concept
- sampler-style experimention with multiple processes to create a variety of projects
- arts learning rooted in the context of history, culture, and/or community
- theme-based units built around a concept presented in the SAC’s current exhibition
Four classes, with a limit of 10 students each, run concurrently each morning and afternoon, Tuesday through Friday. Over the course of each week, preschool and kindergarten participants make art for four hours, while elementary and middle schoolers are engaged for eight hours of artmaking. One or two adult workshops, usually totalling four to eight hours of instruction, are offered in the evenings.
Summer Art is supported in part by its individual and corporate donors, the City of Salina, the Kansas Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.
