Snapshots is an eighteen-week program for high school students at Opportunity Now, a USD 305 facility.
Classes integrate photography and other visual arts with expressive writing as a means of encouraging students to share their lives through self-exploration and individual expression. Local artists teach in collaboration with SAC staff, guiding students in creating artworks about the people, places, and objects that define them.
Completed writings and multi-media collages are showcased at the Art Center in a month-long exhibition when classes end, providing the community with an in-depth look at elements influencing the everyday existence of young people who live in Salina. This uncommon opportunity for sustained work with students during regular classroom hours allows for the focused, sequential instruction that leads to enduring understanding of concepts and their applications.
Snapshots is presented in part by
and the Community Health Investment Program of the Salina Regional Hospital Health Foundation.
