Second Sundays: children and their families explore art together at these free, two-hour sessions. Imaginative play is employed as a teaching tool by visual art specialist Anne Nettleton, who is trained in the research-based Reggio Emilia technique.
Second Sunday of each month, September through May, 2:00-4:00 pm
Intergenerational participants collaborate in artmaking while learning arts vocabulary, experimenting with a variety of materials, and practicing creative processes that can be applied to a broad range of everyday life and learning activities. Children and adults join in talking about the artworks that result from their experimentation. By connecting to children’s experience and knowledge, these classes focus on skills that contribute to social, emotional, linguistic, and cognitive development, reinforcing the learning that takes place at home, in school, and in the community.
Second Sundays is supported in part by its individual and corporate donors, the City of Salina, the Kansas Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.
