DISCOVERERS is an after-school program for students recommended by Lakewood and South Middle School teachers, counselors, and administrators.
DISCOVERERS meets Wednesday afternoons, October through May.
Students come together for 2-hour artmaking sessions once a week throughout the school year, exploring a variety of arts disciplines and media in two- to three-week concentrations.
Local, regional, and residency artists join SAC staff in planning and implementing classes that engage students through creative process in a sequence of disciplines, such as printmaking, drawing, painting, sculpture, and photography. Participants develop skills in self-expression and creativity, gain respect for themselves and others, and learn positive ways to interact.
Families receive periodic newsletters informing them of DISCOVERERS activities and the learning objectives they target.
Students in DISCOVERERS often become Art Center volunteers, helping with three annual Open House events and serving as teacher’s assistants during the summerART and ARTbreak programs.
DISCOVERERS is sponsored by Research Products. Salina Art Center programs are supported in part by Art Center donors and the Salina Arts and Humanities Grants Program.
