Up to 30 students are engaged for two hours a day, with second and third graders meeting in the mornings and fourth through sixth graders in the afternoons. Salina school personnel and the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization are called upon to assist in identifying students who would particularly enjoy this kind of experience during spring vacation.

Local artists work collaboratively with SAC education staff to design an imaginative program that integrates visual and literary arts. The rich potential of community interaction is a frequent component. Utilizing a variety of materials, students progress through a sequential process, building toward the completion of final projects that communicate their ideas through a range of subject matter, symbols, and concepts.

Resource materials provided to families focus on how the week’s activities can serve as a springboard for continued encouragement and support of students’ creative aptitudes at home.
