Hardware Hacking Workshop with Nicolas Collins

Musician, composer, and professor of sound at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Nicolas Collins facilitates a day-long workshop hacking repurposed and recycled audio equipment to create performable electronic instruments and alternative microphones, introducing participants to unexpected ways of hearing.

Materials required by participants:
1. One or more raw loudspeakers of any size (just the speaker, not enclosed in a cabinet/box)
2. Two nine-volt batteries
3. Some small pieces of corroded or rough-surfaced scrap metal
4. A soldering iron (lightweight, fine point)
5. Hand tools (diagonal cutters, wire strippers, a knife, etc.)
