Artist in Residence
ARTISTS
As a laboratory for ideas, experimentation, and communal collaboration, the Artist in Residence program is open to artists working in all disciplines with the proclivity to approaching the issues at stake in Salina. Structured and unstructured opportunities to engage the neighborhood are strongly encouraged and have previously involved scheduled open studio hours, studio or field workshops, public discussions and presentations, in-school experiences with students and educators, and collaborations with non-traditional organizations and audiences. In addition, artists in residence are welcome to propose projects or gestures that directly infiltrate the Art Center’s exhibition, cinema, and education programs.
Each artist in residence is provided a fully-furnished and fully-equipped live/work space; an honorarium; a travel stipend; and full technical and program administrative support.

THE WAREHOUSE
The newly renovated live/work space provides residency artists with a flexible 4000 square-foot studio space and a 520 square-foot, one-bedroom apartment with private bath, kitchenette, common room, and laundry facilities. Phone, cable, internet, and basic tools and supplies are provided. All public areas of The Warehouse are fully accessible.

SELECTION PROCESS
Comprised of Salina community members, artists, and Art Center board and staff members, the Artist in Residence Committee selects the participating artists and coordinates the residency program. The artist selection process is based solely on the submitted application materials, which include a completed application form, one-page letter of intent, current résumé and bio, and 10-15 high-resolution digital images or 5 minutes of digital video footage. All materials are returned to the applicant if a self-addressed, stamped envelope of adequate size is provided.
Submissions are no longer being accepted for the fall 2010-summer 2011 artist in residence program. Applications for 2011-2012 will be available in February 2011.
