The Fascinating World of Mr. Imagination

JUNE 4-11, 2006
Salina Art Center and Smoky Hill River Festival Artist-in-Residence

Mr. Imagination asks visitors to just use your imagination and participate in his community project where you can collaboratively create large-scale, decorative sculptures made from recycled materials. A self-taught artist and legend of the Chicago art scene, Mr. Imagination works with common, everyday objects transforming bottle caps, saws, brooms, and paintbrushes into art. Featured at the Smoky Hill River Festival will be the artist’s imposing throne of red velvet, composed entirely of thousands of painstakingly nailed bottle caps, accompanied by matching regal scepter and towering totems. For children who want to learn more about how to create art like Mr. Imagination, workshops will be held at the Smoky Hill River Festival on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. This project is presented by the Salina Art Center, whose summer exhibition Tools as Art features more of Mr. Imagination’s artwork.
