Thank you to our generous sponsor, Sunflower Bank, and co-sponsor, Green Lantern Car Washes, for making another summer of enriching art experiences possible for area children.

Second Sundays
Sunday, May 11, 2:00 - 4:00pm

Children and accompanying adults make art together in these intergenerational sessions held in the ARTery. With a focus on the art of India, explore a variety of processes and experiment with tools and materials under the guidance of art teacher Anne Nettleton. Second Sundays takes a break for the summer starting in June and will resume in September.

Classroom Tour
Students experience contemporary art exhibitions through tours led by trained docents. Tours are age appropriate, interactive and include hands-on activities designed to enhance students’ exhibition. Free.

Internships
College and high school students learn about the inner workings of a museum during the school day. Click here to learn about Curatorial Assistant Internships opportunities for Fall, Spring and Summer semesters (Adobe Reader required, get it here).

Docent Training
One of the most educational and rewarding volunteer activities at the Salina Art Center is leading tours as a docent. Docents may choose the age groups and times they participate in tours, and all docents attend a training for each exhibition, which includes background information about the art and helpful suggestions for making tours meaningful for all age groups.

The ARTery, free and open during regular gallery hours, is a great place for creative minds to wander, invent, and learn. Visitors can explore a variety of activities, with at least one directly relating to the current exhibition.

The Salina Art Center believes that art can teach anyone, at any age, valuable lessons about life, and places a strong emphasis on the importance of art education. We offer programs for pre-schoolers through adults. Classes are open to the public; fee reductions and scholarships are available.

In addition to structured classes, the Art Center also offers guided tours through current exhibitions.

Call 785-827-1431 or email for more information.

Education programs at the Salina Art Center are presented in part by Schwans Food Manufatcuring and the Kansas Arts Commission, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
